Prime Trust conducts general medical camp at Rettanai village – 02.09.2023
Conducting a general medical camp can have several benefits, both for the community and for healthcare providers. Medical camps provide access to healthcare services for individuals who may not have easy access to healthcare facilities due to geographical, financial, or logistical barriers. This helps in reaching underserved populations. Regular medical check-ups at camps can help in the early detection of diseases and conditions. Medical camps often include health education sessions where healthcare providers can educate participants about preventive measures, healthy lifestyles, and disease management. This empowers individuals to take better care of their health.
On 02.09.2023 Prime Trust along with Vel dental clinic, Agarwal eye hospital and i med hospital conducted a general health camp at a church in Rettanai village. The i med hospital team from Dindivanam provided general health checkup – blood pressure, blood glucose level and other ailments were treated. The people were provided with medicines. The Vel dental team provided dental checkup, basic treatment and oral health care education was provided. The Agarwal eye team did the screening for auto reflation, refractive error and color vision, power correction for distance vision & near vision. They provided counseling for cataract surgeries, Glaucoma surgeries and refractive surgeries. For further treatments the people were referred to local health care centers. About 120 individuals were benefitted from the camp.

Let’s make draw string bags!! (Prime Trust works with the Kuravar community at Karikalampakkam to enhance their children’s education) – 26.08.2023
The Kuravar community is a traditionally nomadic tribe in India, known for their unique culture and crafts. One of the traditional crafts they practice is creating handmade drawstring bags. The fabric is cut and the pieces are sewed together to form the body of the bag. This might involve stitching along the sides and bottom. To create the drawstring closure, they would leave an opening at the top of the bag and a separate cord is used. This drawstring could be pulled to secure the bag's contents. The bags might be adorned with beads, shells, or embroidery to add a decorative touch. The bags would be inspected for quality, and any loose threads or imperfections would be addressed. The drawstrings would be secured properly, ensuring the bag is functional.
Cultural Significance: The drawstring bags made by the Kuravar community women are not just functional items but also hold cultural and social significance. They might be used for carrying daily essentials, storing personal items, or even as gifts for special occasions. The intricate patterns and designs on the bags could convey stories, traditions, and symbols unique to the Kuravar community.
Overall, the process of making drawstring bags by the Kuravar community women involves a blend of traditional crafting techniques, natural materials, and cultural expressions that have been passed down through generations.

Prime Trust Founder Mr. S.M.Arasu visits the Kuravar community in Karikalampakkam village 26.08.2023
The Kuravars are one of the indigenous communities in Tamil Nadu, India. They have a long history and a rich cultural heritage, and are primarily found in the southern parts of Tamil Nadu. Traditionally, the Kuravars have been associated with hunting, gathering, and other forest-related occupations. They also have their own distinct set of customs, traditions, and rituals. Their songs, dances, and festivals often revolve around nature, given their traditional association with forests. They typically speak a variant of Tamil, though some groups might have their own dialects or use words that aren't common in standard Tamil. The Kuravars, like many other indigenous communities in India, have historically been marginalized and often face socio-economic challenges. They are often categorized under the Scheduled Tribes (ST) in many parts of Tamil Nadu, which entitles them to certain reservations and benefits as per the Indian constitution. However, their actual status might vary based on region. Kuravar settlements, often called 'kuravar colonies' in local parlance, are typically located on the fringes of forests or in hilly terrains. However, with increasing urbanization and loss of forests, many have moved to urban areas seeking better livelihood opportunities.
Current Challenges: The Kuravars, like many indigenous communities, face a range of challenges in modern-day India. These include loss of traditional livelihoods, land alienation, marginalization, lack of access to quality education and healthcare, and more.
On 26.08.2023 the Prime trust Founder and Managing Director Mr.S.M. Arasu visited the kuravar community in Karikalampakkam village. Prime Trust is planning to start evening schools at Karikalampakkam village, one for the Kuravar community.

Speech about the history of India’s Independence
Speech about the history of India’s Independence
India's quest for independence began in the late 19th century with the formation of the Indian National Congress (INC) in 1885. Over the years, India saw a diverse range of leaders and movements advocating for freedom from British colonial rule. Mahatma Gandhi became the face of this struggle, employing non-violent civil disobedience methods like the Salt March in 1930. The Quit India Movement in 1942 called for the British to leave India. Alongside the INC, the All India Muslim League, led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah, advocated for a separate nation for Muslims, which eventually led to the partition of India in 1947. After enduring over two centuries of British rule, India finally gained its independence on August 15, 1947, but not without paying the heavy price of partition, which resulted in the creation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The joy of freedom was thus tinged with the sorrow of division and the resulting communal violence.
One of the girls in Janani Home gave a speech on the history of India’s Independence for the Independence Day program on 15.08.2023 at Janani Home, Colas Nagar.

Speech about Freedom Fighters on Independence Day – 15.08.2023
Speech about Freedom Fighters on Independence Day – 15.08.2023
India's long struggle for independence from British colonial rule is marked by the sacrifices, struggles, and leadership of numerous freedom fighters. These individuals dedicated their lives to the cause of India's independence, often at great personal risk and sacrifice.
One of the girls from Janani Home gave a speech about one of the unsung heroes Theeran Mayandi Servai. He was born on 3 March 1904. The title ‘Theeran’ denotes his ‘Daring’ character. A freedom fighter and artist, Mayanndi Servai was fearless and gave a tough time to the British Administration. Mayandi Servai wanted to do something big and unforgettable as damage to the British raj. He did not want to lose his life but wanted to do something worthwhile, which would be etched permanently in the history of the freedom movement of India, and which would bring great disrespect to the Administration. A member of the All India Hindu Mahasabha, he later became its president. Mayandi Servai decided to hoist the Indian flag atop the Sri. Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, that too on an appointed day, daring the British Police to arrest him if they could. Accordingly, he announced a particular day as a ‘D-day - the flag hoisting day’ and dared the British Admin to prevent him from doing so. People around Madurai strongly believed that Mayandi Servai would in some way or the other hoist the flag since they knew Mayandi Servai could do the impossible. Such was his reputation in and around Madurai Town. This became a big prestige issue for the British. If the Indian Flag was allowed to be hoisted at a Temple, that too challenging it on a particular day, would be a big loss of face for the British. Hence, they issued a warrant to arrest Mayandi Servai. However, ten days earlier, Mayandi Servai ascended the north gopuram of the temple with a bag of peanuts and water and on D-day, he hoisted the flag. He later obtained the title ‘Theeran Mayandi Servai’ and dedicated his life to the freedom movement of this country. After independence, he started the ‘Agamudaiyar Mahasaba’ in Thirumamgalam, Madurai, and did a lot of social services. He passed away on 12 August 1992.
